The
Notes on Dora Maar au Chat was painted by Picasso in 1941. It is an
oil painting and it shows a girl. It depicts Dora Maar, the painter’s
lover, seated on a chair with a small cat perched on her shoulders.
This work is one of the world’s most expensive paintings.
This
type of work is typical of cubism, an art movement which started in
France in the 1907s. In Cubist artwork, objects are analyzed, broken
up and reassembled and the artist depicts the subject from a
multitude of viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater
context.
The
Notes on Dora Maar au Chat was first exhibited in 2005, where it was
bought for $95 million. But now it is owned by private collector.
